Augusta Hare (1879) was a guest of the Montefiore’s in 1886 when they hosted a Grand Ball to celebrate the completion of the new Worth Park Mansion.

In his book In My Solitary life he wrote his surprise at finding a Mezuzah on the bedroom door.

“Nov. 18.– An agreeable party at Worth (Mrs. Montefiore’s), the most luxurious of modern houses, where a bit of the Law in a little bottle is screwed upon the door of every bedroom”
