Crawley Museum Society was officially formed as a local history society in 1977. In 2018 it became Crawley Museums CIO. (CIO reg no. 1178299)

Crawley Museums CIO has an elected committee which, together with the museum staff, is responsible for the management and upkeep of Crawley Museum and Ifield Watermill. It also regularly holds talks, walks and monthly meetings which promote the history of Crawley. Members keep in touch with other activities of the CIO, Museum and Watermill through a quarterly newsletter. They also receive a discount on the cost of visits and talks.

The fee for a year’s membership is:

  • Adult - £12.00
  • Concessions - £10.00
  • Family £15.00
  • Unwaged £10.00
  • Life Membership £100.00
  • Former Committee Member (please indicate years active on Committee) £5.00

Crawley Museums Talks

Crawley Museums Talks run on the last Tuesdays of every month excluding August. Talks are free for members but we welcome donations. There is a £3 charge for non-members. If you would like to do a talk, please get in touch with our committee at office@crawleymuseums.org.

Upcoming talks

Tuesday 26th March 2024 Andy Bliss QPM gives a lively account of the history of the ancient role of High Sheriff in Sussex from the Anglo-Saxon period to the present day which draws on a wealth of fascinating archive material as well as picture and archaeological evidence to bring the account to life. 

Tuesday 23rd April 2024 The History of Emergency Medicine, Napoleonic to Paramedic talk by John Battersby.
