As a parent of a tween I was very anxious when It came time to come out as non binary to my child. I decided to start gauging her understanding of the LGBTQ+ community, so I took advantage of the homeschooling during lockdown to plan a day to talk about gender and sexual diversity. When it came time to talk about trans people I asked her if she knew any, expecting her to mention one of our friends or maybe some media character, but she just answered me with "Duh. YOU dude!" And that is how my kid outed me to myself. - Simo I transitioned on the 21st March 2020. The next day the first COVID lockdown was announced. D'oh! Literally all dressed up and nowhere to go. I had also just sent off my deed poll to be 'enrolled' at the court office, and that’s where it sat for the duration of 5 months, so I was unable to start updating all my accounts etc. with my new name. When I finally got it back, one of the first things I did was to go to the bank to update my details. I was feeling a bit nervous. I walked up to the till position and explained to the young lady that I needed to change my name... and why. She gave me a big smile and said "Congratulations!" It was a lovely spontaneous reaction. It made me very happy. - Rebeka
