By “The Road to Crawley Project”
Situated between London and the south coast, Crawley experienced enemy aircraft flying overhead throughout the war. 50 high explosive bombs, 2000 incendiary bombs and 5 Doodlebugs fell on the town. The Doodlebug that fell on Crawley in July 1944 killed 7 people; left 44 injured and destroyed 15 houses.
