Description

By Nadine Hygate

This is probably the most prestigious medieval building in Crawley and is Nationally Listed Grade II*. It is however perhaps best remembered under its title ‘The Ancient Priors’. The book has considerable detail on the history of the building, its owners and occupiers from 1367.

What is fact and what is fiction about this building? From the data available at the present it has not always been possible to substantiate or unravel these but the book does indeed offer some tantalising clues.

The building has been a family home and business premises for over 500 years, and this book tells the story of lives of the families who lived there and their contribution to the life of the community.

The building is now used by a restaurant and a solicitor.
