Over the years, Queen Elizabeth has visited Crawley many times. This exhibition displays objects and pictures from those visits.

Alongside images and objects of some of the celebrations and memorials that the people of Crawley have had for royal coronations, weddings and funerals.

In the image entitled “Presenting the contractors and Foremen of Smalls Mead …” the gentleman that Princess Elizabeth is speaking with is my uncle, George Arnold, who I believe was a Site Agent at the time. George was 31 years old at the time the photo was taken. Sadly, he died just under seven years later of muscular dystrophy.
