Three men of the Cook family, including the heir to the family business, Richard Edward Cook, went to fight. With the aid of local newspaper reports, war diaries, service records and family history, this book follows Eddie Cook on his journey from the cricket playing fields of Sussex to the trenches of the Western Front. It tells us what happened to him and the more than one hundred men of Crawley who never came home.

This is the story of the impact of the Great War on one small Sussex town.
