Mezuzah, in mainstream Rabbinic Judaism, a mezuzah is affixed to the doorpost of Jewish homes to fulfil the mitzvah (Biblical commandment) to “write the words of God on the gates and doorposts of your house” (Deuteronomy 6:9).
